Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is an unassuming community situated on the West Island, which is part of the Montreal island. The West Island has a lot of diverse communities. For those who haven't heard of it often think it is a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island, although this isn't the truth. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. In her early years she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." After I outgrew the male counterparts, I gave up. Some former dancers switch into acting. In Brugel's case it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher which encouraged her to go in that direction. The teacher recommended that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. Following a trial the role, she was chosen as the main character in Anne of Green Gables. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work has been seen on both the large and small screen. Her work gained most attention when she won her part as Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in the season 1 and was only seen on occasion.
